Whenever I look at the mirror, I always notice the lines on my face grows wider and wider by the day. I'm not vain or something, aging is expected, it's just that these lines are impossible to notice. Like what my nephews are saying (joke or not), I looked like someone from the retirement camp.
My mom probably is the biggest example of aging gracefully and beautifully, until her disease caught up with her appearance. About a year ago when she was healthier, she looked as fine as she used to be decades ago. She's of Spanish decent and her mestiza skin is just as smooth as a baby. But recently, she's gone paralyzed and is currently in a bedridden status, and the inevitable aging lines are now visible in her face.
I don't know any thing about beauty secrets and rituals, but I do know some ways to keep your body healthy and strong beyond your age. These are not professional advice and only from my own perspective.
1. Walk every morning. - this means you simply need to go out of your house in the morning, around 5:30-6:30 and walk for a minimum 30 minutes. You can bring your dog and walk him in the park if you want. I prefer walking in the park or at the shore in the morning and wait for the sun to be high enough (like 8am-9am) before I walk home.
2. Wake up early, sleep early. - I used to do this in reverse because I believed when I was still a student that my 'personal peak hours' of studying, you know - the time you think you can absorb information best, is at midnight. It worked for many years, until recently I felt like I'm becomiing more and more exhausted when I'm awake at night and sleeping in the morning. So I decided to put on a regular sleep and I'm glad I did because I'm feeling better now than the previous 6 years of my life.
3. Smile more. - Indeed, a smile every morning will lead you to a brighter day ahead. Start your day with a smile and even if you see not-so-good things, ignore it and just smile. It's a lovely feeling. It lightens me up. But be careful not to wear your uberly wide smile in the public, you can be labeled crazy and delusional.
4. Eat right, drink right. - A good food is good for your body and for your soul. A person who doesn't eat properly is unhealthy and an unhealthy, hungry person cannot think properly.
So there you are, my personal vanity kit for your body and soul.
