Learn how to build muscle and burn fat with principles and techniques found through out the business world.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
Successful companies all around the world have become successful by taking very disciplined approaches to cutting costs and increasing revenues. This approach is perfect for weight loss and building muscle. If you look at burning fat as cost cutting as muscle building as increasing revenues, I have found that many of the same techniques are applicable.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
We launched around October of 2006 with a homepage and a few article. Since then it has grown into almost 300 quality pages.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
We wanted something that conveyed the business aspect of weight loss. We thought Middle Management alluded to both the fitness side (watching your middle) and the business side.
What makes it different from other, similar offerings?
Definitely the business spin. Where possible, we wanted to use analogies and examples that clarified how to build muscle and burn fat. One of our best examples is how calories affect weight gain and loss by using an example of a bank account. Spend more than you make, your bank account shrinks in the same way that if you burn more calories than you eat, you shrink, in general.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
We would like to keep the site for a while and eventually write a book if the concept catches on. However, if the right offer were to come along...
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
Very well. We am happy so far with the return on both monetary and time investment.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
Right now, there is nothing that sticks out as needing a major overhaul. We would continue to add quality, easy to understand articles, resources and tools, only at a faster pace!
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
Oh yes. We currently have a very scalable business model.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
The hardest thing is finding quality link partnerships and creating unique, original content. We want links that are beneficial to our users to get them on the path to the body they want. At the same time, we do not want to publish the same old articles that you can find anywhere. We want to keep our content fresh and relevant.
What has been your biggest challenge?
The link partners are the biggest challenge. Lots of low quality sites are willing to link with you, but that really dilutes the user experience if they find those bad links on our website. If you know of any good link partners, let us know!
