Feed Your Kids Properly

By Dietician at 06/24/08 07:18

Sometimes we hear our parents, "You cannot go out if you won't finish your food." I often hear that from my father when I was younger. They always wanted us to eat and eat and eat. They do not want their babies be hungry, I guess that's just normal for parents.

But actually, they are wrong to let us eat and eat anything. Studies found that children are more susceptible to being obese and being overweight than adults. So if you keep on feeding your children as if there's no tomorrow just to show you are doing your job of feeding your family, maybe you should think of it first.

Childhood Obesity - A Serious Matter

By Dietician at 06/15/08 15:41
I recently came across a video report discussing childhood obesity and that's what I would like to share with you today.

It is said that 1 out of every 5 American kids are suffering from obesity. It starts at a very young age, and if not given proper attention, America will be facing a new generation of sick kids who will die earlier than their parents. Watch this video.

YouTube Video

Childhood obesity is a term applied to children ages 2 to 18 that is overweight in contrast with their age and height. For the past three decades, childhood obesity alarmingly increased at a rapid rate. At the moment, there are about 9 million American kids that are diagnosed as obese, contributing almost 50% of the world's total population of obese children.

It is also found that obesity can be brought by genetic factor, but experts said it is not likely to become the main reason for our being obese. The reasons would be a less physical training in schools as compared to schools a few decades ago. The TV programs that encouraged children to sit in front of the television for almost half of the day without even moving or walking around, thus, reducing their physical activities is also a factor.

However, the main reason would be the rapid increase in the number of fast food stores across the globe. These foods contain high fat and calories with less vitamins and nutrients that we really need.

However, we can do to counter childhood obesity. And we must all start it in our homes.

Encourage your kids to go out and play. Have a balance time table with playing, studying and watching television. Make sure to give them lots of fruits and vegetables and avoid eating too much from whatever fastfood stores can give you.

Gather and encourage schools to give better exercising curriculum that will help kids maintain their body and fitness.

Let us save our children and let's start saving them now.
