I almost believe my friend when he told me McDonald's is now moving from the line of "profitable marketing" to "healthy food selection" category. Well, I have never been a fan of McDonald's, most especially when the flick Super Size Me came out. But since I wanted to try out how their burgers taste, I went in with a friend and bought some. Also, I was on a diet that time that I thought having a burger for lunch is enough. The burger is nothing special. It tastes exactly like the other burgers available on another store. The only problem after eating it is that I felt my tummy crumbled. I thought I was just feeling that because I'm not used to having Ronald's burger in my tummy. But then when I read an article on Best of Mother Earth, and I was horrified. Do McDonald burgers decomposed?
On the article, Karen Hanrahan claimed she bought a burger from McDonald's in 1996, an obvious 12 years ago. Here is the scary part, she kept the burger in a plastic box and up to now, the burger still hasn't decomposed. Yes,the burger is still the same burger after 12 years.
She claimed McDonald's has put too much preservatives so it won't be spoiled for a longer time, but isn't that 'too long'? And I don't know what kind of preservative can maintain a food for 12 years. It's just... sick!
Imagine, that was my first time eating a McDonald's burger, my tummy was crumbling and then I'll see that article! It was a shocking event. However, after a few hours of thorough thinking, I started to question the validity of that 12 year old burger.
Perhaps it is really true that she bought that burger in 1996 and has not changed since then, but the method she used for preserving the burger may have affected it and resulted into not decomposing at all. She may not directly interfered with the process and never put anything to the burger, but according to her she stored it in a plastic container. The plastic container must be so tight that even a small amount of air was unable to penetrate it. In that case, fungi and bacteria will really thrive in it, and therefore there will be now way for the burger to decompose.
Eitherway, true or not, I am pretty sure I will not come back to any McDonald's store again. Well, their food is something I will not come back for. And really, foods offered in any fastfood chains are not the food people on a diet need.
