Admit it. One of the things that motivates you to work harder, drive harder, and strive to meet goals is music. Back in college, I used to remember the advise of my friends to listen to the music I love while reviewing for a big exam. According to them, music relaxes the mind and makes it more capable of holding precious information.
Music also allows us to forget about uncomfortable experiences in the meantime and concentrate on listening to it. If your back is aching, for instance, immersing yourself in the music you love listening to heal can heal all the pain, even for just a while.
A 2005 study shows that the same idea may also hold for losing weight. In the 2005 study done at Fairleigh Dickinson University’s School of Psychology, 41 women classified to be from overweight to moderately obese were observed during a 24-week program of dieting, walking, and participating in weekly group meetings. The women were divided into two groups: the first one was given a set of CD players, which the women can play while they were walking. The other group also walked, but there was no music involved.
The study revealed that the group which was listening to music had an average rate of 98% to the diet program, while the other one only had an average of 68%. What's more is that the music group lost, on average, 16 pounds, while the music-less group averaged 8-pound losses.
Indeed, music motivates us to finish whatever our tasks are, even if they involve burning down the stubborn fats. It doesn't even matter what kind of music is played, as long as the listener enjoys it. So next time you decide to go for a work, never forget your iPod. Before you even start, make sure that the songs you like are already downloaded and ready-to-play on your music player. Once they're loaded, put the songs playing continuously on your ears and start losing weight already!
