Your name?
David Morgan
Your Location (city, etc)
Knoxville
When did you start your website and why?
Obesity is a "huge" problem these days. It's also one of the most profitable industries. But it's hard to get good information on diets and weight loss, so I built a search engine to help real people find information from other real people.
Please give us a short summary of your website, business model, etc
It's a search engine that looks through blog posts all over the web for diet and weight loss related information.
What has been the most difficult part of creating and running your website?
The programming has been the most difficult part, though promoting the site is proving to be the most tedious.
What has been the easist part of operating your website?
The easiest part has been that there's no lack of material to include in the search results.
What was your biggest mistake?
I think the biggest mistake anyone can make in building a web-based business is to start new projects without fully developing old projects. You end up spinning your wheels with great ideas that never get anywhere.
Who maintains your website and why?
I maintain my web site because it's the cheapest way to do it, and I'm perfectly capable.
Tell us how your business has benefitted from your website?
We'll see about that one -- this is a brand-new business.
What are your views on ecommerce and the future of the internet?
The Internet is still so new. It changes every week. I see it growing, but it is starting to be less and less egalitarian. There was a time when John Doe could take on the biggest corporations and win, but deep pockets are starting to be important in this industry, too, unless you happen to know your stuff about SEO and copywriting.
What are your views on Search Engine Optimization (SEO)?
There's nothing magic about SEO. Optimize page titles, create content for real people to read, update frequently, and get as many contextual inpointing links from related sites as possible.
What are your views on Search Engines? Have they helped or hindered your website?
Search engines always help. It's how the most targeted and motivated audience finds you.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
Links, links, and more links from related sites. I imagine blogging and article-writing will also prove to be very important.
What method has been least successful for promoting your website?
Half-building a site and letting it sit around.
What would you like to see change with respect to the internet?
I'd like to see some small fry tangle with Google, Yahoo, and Microsoft.
Who is the audience for your web site?
Diet and Weight Loss Search is built for people looking for information about diet programs, diet pills, weight loss surgery, weight loss herbs, and a great deal more from people who have tried them. Come on by and check out the site!
