The Raw Food Diet

By Fit Bud at 10/07/08 06:46

Raw food diet, which through the years have evolved into what we call raw foodism, is the lifestyle that promotes eating raw un-cooked foods. Before, raw food diet does not include eating raw meat but only raw vegetables, fruits and weeds. But over the years, it changed to eating almost anything that is raw.

We humans have always been fascinated on how wild animals survived by just eating foods that are raw. Well, a lion will not likely to eat a chocolate cake. A fish will not eat a fruit salad but seaweeds and small fishes alone. So, some people think believe eating raw foods is just normal, for we are afterall, animals too.

The Japanese, Koreans and the Chinese are known to raw food eaters. Sushi, sashimi, live squids et al are one of their favorite foods. People around the globe are inspired with the beauty of their skin, long life and slow aging. They said these are attributed to their raw foodism lifestyle.

Indulging in a raw food diet comes with both the Pros and Cons, or should I just say the Good and the Bad sides. So now let me list down both.

GOOD SIDES

  • fresh
  • no artificial chemicals
  • no alteration of nutrients because of the absence of heat
  • psychological statement that what you eat is good for your body because it did not undergo any artificial processes

BAD SIDES

  • some food contains harmful microorganisms that can live in your body
  • raw foods such as vegetables may contain toxic wastes which they absorbed from polluted air
  • some vitamins and nutrients cannot be found (or hard to find) in available organic/raw foods, thus creating deficiencies
  • beta-carotene becomes digestible easier when cooked
  • raw food diet is not advisable for people living in cold areas

Going on a Raw Food Diet depends upon a person's view of how the food must be eaten. People who thinks food are better off uncooked, or to those who think it's better to cook food will choose and has the option to adapt the diet or not.

Eitherway, I love eating and I will eat both cooked and uncooked as long as I know what kind of food is served on my table.
