Knowing The Calorie You Need

By Fit Bud at 08/12/08 06:30

In every food we take, we know that we consume certain amount of calories. These calories are the main source of our energy. But having too much calorie in the body may result into obesity. And having low levels of calorie in the body will result into bad effects as well.

So how do we know if we are getting the proper amount of calories in our body? There are a lot of calorie measuring sites that are in existence nowadays. But I'm afraid most of them are not accurate.

It is very difficult to set a standard calorie level. What makes it difficult is the fact that every person has a different body composition and each of us has our own body activity levels.

Despite of this, health organizations still managed to come up with the 'ideal' calorie level for a person. The recommended daily calorie intake of a person is 1200 calories per day for women, and 1800 calories per day for men. This isn't as accurate as what you want it to be, as I said above, it works differently in every body type. But at least we know what level must we achieve each day.

It is not recommended to go below the given base level. Going below 1000 calorie a day may result into some serious problem. The main problem of this scenarios is that catabolism occurs. Catabolism happens when you do not have enough calorie in your body and because of this, your muscle mass is being broken down by your cells to be the new source of energy.

Having too much low levels of calorie in your body can make your metabolism slow. This is because your metabolic process cannot be done properly because of the low level of muscle mass due to catabolism.

Low calorie levels may also create a feeling of irritability, nutritional deficiency, fatigue and sluggishness. You can regain your normal status by going back to your proper eating patterns and getting the proper amount of calorie needed.
